How to make a pink iced heart shaped cake!

So last week I went on a baking craze and thought I’d share the recipe of this pink iced heart shaped cake with multi coloured sprinkles as it came out pretty well: IMG_20170730_193820_616 (1)

For the cake, you need:

250g self raising flour

175g butter

120-175g caster sugar depending on your preference (I put around 150g)

3 eggs

A little bit of milk (1-3 tablespoons)

A teaspoon of vanilla extract

  1. Put the oven to 180 degrees, gas mark 4 and grease your baking tin with butter (you will need a heart shaped one to fit this recipe, but it will work well with any other baking tin)
  2. Using an electric or ordinary hand mixer, mix the sugar and butter together, and then crack the eggs in individually while continuously mixing.
  3. Sift the flour about 50-100g at a time, and mix thoroughly into the mixture each time. Add the vanilla extract, and a few tablespoons of milk if needed to make the mixture fall off a spoon, but make sure it isn’t too runny.
  4. Put the mixture into your baking tin, and bake for 30-45 minutes until the cake looks slightly golden, and a knife can come out clean when inserted.

While you leave the cake to cool on a wiring rack, you can make the light pink icing; you’ll simply need:

100g of butter

200g of icing sugar (I personally prefer to use slightly less)

Half a teaspoon of vanilla essence

One or two drops of red food colouring (the more you use, the stronger the pink will be)

Method: Simply melt the butter and add in all other ingredients, mixing until you form a smooth mixture.

Once the cake is fully cool (allow at least 15 minutes), spread the icing onto the cake, and add on multi coloured sprinkles (you could also use fully chocolate ones, according to your preferences), and voila!

Welcome 2016! For my first post of the new year, I thought I’d post a sweet recipe for some easy chocolate chip cookies 🙂

You will need: (Makes 6-8)

90g butterIMG_20160103_233847

90g caster sugar

150g self raising flour

1 egg/50ml milk

Chocolate chips (you can add your own variety here such as sultanas or dried fruit if you want a more healthier option!)

EQUIPMENT: Scales, baking tray, jug, mixing bowl, spoon, knife

  1. Weigh and put the flour and butter into a mixing bowl. Rub in the butter into the flour until it becomes like breadcrumbs.
  2. Add the sugar and chocolate chips/any other alternatives into the mixing bowl.
  3. If using an egg, crack it into a jug and mix with a fork or weigh out the milk.
  4. Gradually, add the egg/milk to the mixing bowl and use the knife to stir it together until it forms a soft dough. You may not need it all!
  5. Divide the dough into smaller balls and put them onto a baking tray, leaving space for them to spread. Press each one down so they are slightly flat.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown at 180c, Gas Mark 6.
  7. Remove from the oven once they are ready and place them onto a cooling tray.
  8. Leave them to cool before eating them! 🙂

I LOVE BAKING! | Silly Faces Cupcakes!

So yesterday I decided to bake some sweet treats – and baking felt like a rediscovered hobby. It’s a great hobby, though yesterday I didn’t have the whole day to make a cake from scratch, but I did want to make something and so I bought the ‘Jane Asher Choco Bean Funny Faces’ cupcake mix. The end result – delicious! Though the more fun part was creating the icing to add on to the cakes once cooled, as well as using the edible funny faces to put on to create funny face cupcakes! They’re super easy too – you just add the cake mix to some water, and a medium egg! Below are the creations! ❤

Baking Oreo Cupcakes!

So today I decided to try out Tanya Burr’s recipe on oreo cupcakes, with a secret oreo surprise at the bottom 😉 THE CHOCOLATELY GOODNESS IS UNBELIEVABLE! The cakes turned out great and taste even better ready warm from the oven. However the icing didn’t go exactly as surprise which is why the cupcakes are not pictured with them! (hehe)

Check out Tanya’s amazing recipe here:

There is a YouTube version on her channel ‘Tanya Burr’ too!
