WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE! #GeneralElection2017

The past couple of years has changed the scene of politics. 2016 bought the Brexit referendum, the election of Donald Trump as President of the USA and the resignation of former Prime Minister David Cameron following the referendum result, leading to Theresa May as the new PM. A general election has been called which, while spontaneous, gives the general population a chance to change the course of politics, or continue with a Conservative government. This election is all the more significant, considering the changes of the past few years. So why vote?general-election-poll-tracker-large_trans_NvBQzQNjv4BqqVzuuqpFlyLIwiB6NTmJwfSVWeZ_vEN7c6bHu2jJnT8

  • IT GIVES YOU A STAKE IN THE GOVERNMENT’S PLATFORM: Young people, for example are significantly underrepresented as many choose not to vote or engage with political issues that will directly affect us as we grow older. By voting in mass numbers, you can become a cohesive group that parties are forced to be responsive towards and include in their manifestos. Many people complain of feeling disengaged with politics and see no point in voting yet so few are willing to re-engage and challenge the status quo. Politicians are there to serve the people, and be held to account – one vote contributes to that. A higher turnout gives the government a larger mandate to govern which is true democracy.
  • VOTING MUSTN’T BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED: In liberal democracies, it’s all too easy to be used to having the privilege of voting once you turn 18 and so . But you have to remember that marginalised and minority groups across the world have fought for this right, from the Suffragettes to the Civil Rights Movement, and so to vote is to carry their legacy forward of universal suffrage. In many countries in the world, including acclaimed democracies, the rigging and corruption of elections is not uncommon. Registering to vote and casting your ballot is so simple and easy yet so many don’t.
  • YOU CAN VOTE IN DIFFERENT WAYS: A common reason people give for not voting is because they either don’t know who to vote for, they feel too disillusioned from the party’s manifestos or see the voting system as simply wasting their vote. You don’t have to cast a firm ballot – you can protest vote by simply handing in a spoilt ballot. That way, you haven’t voted for any of the candidate but will be counted in the statistics of spoilt ballots, rather than be counted in the percentage of those who simply didn’t vote. This can send a clear message of discontent to political parties on issues such as electoral reform. You can even vote tactically by forming part of a voting bloc to vote out your least favoured party/candidate by voting for the most popular opposition. You can also vote by post if you cannot make it to your polling station.

Be sure to register by the 22nd May here: htww.gov.uk/register-to-votetps://w, and use your political power.

SOLAR ECLIPSE!

image

So today was an exciting day – the day of the solar eclipse, which is next set to happen in about 16 years time. That’s precisely the reason that it was raved about so much. I was during school at the time today and managed to get to the roof and snap a picture through the lenses of UV ray protection glasses. This is the shot! It does not show the total eclipse, but rather the moon settling into position, about a quarter of the way to the full eclipse! Taken in Leicester, UK, where it was predicted to be a 90% blackout. It definitely didn’t seem that dark, but there were a few clouds about! How was your viewing of the solar eclipse?

HAPPY NEW YEAR! | bushrajalilblog

There is still a good six hours to go before the New Year truly begins in the UK, marked by the always spectacular yearly fireworks display in London. However, firework celebrations have already begun in many countries such as Australia and Taiwan, so I’d like to take this as my last blog post of 2014 and wish you all a happy, safe animagesd blessed new year. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

This has been my first year of blogging, and as coincidental as this sounds, I first opened my blog on the 1st of January 2013! I guess I wanted to do it as a new start to the year, even though I only actually wrote on it regularly several months in. Who would’ve believed that I would make it to the end of the year? I doubt I kept any resolutions I made last year (as most of us do!) and so I thought I’d share not my resolutions for the year, but my wishes for the year, to the rest of the world. As much as the New Year is a time of celebration, the atrocities committed in the past year, and as recently as the last month or so were devastating. This leads me on to my biggest wish ever – to see peace on Earth!! It’s said again and again every year, but that simply highlights how important it is. The best way to defeat war is through love! So many people die and suffer at the hands of those who have justified their actions in the name of religion, politics and greed. Another dream is to see religions peacefully co-exist, like it should always be. The core of every religion is love, which is what connects them all. The foundations of their teachings are morals and love so the fact that people abuse this is heartbreaking and a real insult to those who are going through such hardships where religion may be all they have ❤

Becoming a better person in every way you can is truly beneficial to you and the world. A person of genuine peace and kindness is reflected like the sun’s rays through their personality, and this generates positivity to those who really need it.

Remember, peace starts with YOU. War and hatred starts and ends with US. Let’s not take it to 2015.

And, once again, HAPPY NEW YEAR! Make the most!

Peace, Bushra xxx

Review | Neutrogena Visibly Clear Spot Control face scrub

So this review will be on the Neutrogena visibly clear spot control face scrub. I previousely used the Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit daily scrub, and the results were amazing – I had soft, clear skin which people complimented! You can view full details here on the Boots website: http://www.boots.com/en/Neutrogena-Visibly-Clear-Pink-Grapefruit-Daily-Scrub_1110483/

But anyway, I fancied a change and so I bought this one. I kept to the same brand of Neutrogena as it’s one of my favourites for skin care but also because it was the same as my previous face scrub. I have been using it for about a week and can see some similarities and differences. I use a pea sized amount as it lathers up quite easily, and lasts for ages at 150ml.                                            IMG_20141114_064124

Smell: I have to admit that the reason I loved the first scrub so much was because of the delicate but fruitful smell of grapefruit which made me want to use it. This one, however, has a very contrasting smell. You have to smell it as it’s one of those indescribable scents, but I would say it’s slightly minty, yet refreshing. To be honest and open, I didn’t like the smell the first day or two of trying it but I suppose that would be expected seeing as I was so used to the fruitful scent of the grapefruit facial scrub. However, after a week now I really do like the refreshing scent, yet woulden’t recoomend it if you really can’t stand mint or ocean like scents, or if you prefer fruity or floral scents.

Effects: The effects on my skin was fairly the same as the previous one. It removes dirt and helps clear clogged pores and really refreshes your face, unlike some facial scrubs. You really do feel fresh faced and cleansed after usage. I guess the only difference is that this one claims to maintain ‘spot control’, though many of the Neutrogena products aim for the same thing, and the grapefruit one does the same, so this is nothing new. My skin feels so soft and smooth after using it each time, and it’s one of those things you need after you’ve just had a face of make-up!

Price: It’s available in major drugstores like Boots and Superdrug for under £5 and even shops like Asda and Tesco, where I got mine on sale for £2.33! To be fair, I would buy it for more anyway as it will last beyond months.

Overall I would recommend it if you want clear, soft skin with lasting results. #TeamNeutrogena
